Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $550,000)
The Institute of Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will continue to provide support for the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), and BJA's Fusion Center partner organizations' Fusion Process Technical Assistance Program. IIR will: provide information targeting the needs of law enforcement professionals involved in fusion center operations; continue to coordinate and facilitate regional fusion center training and technical assistance meetings; and, coordinate and support National Fusion Center Coordination Group meetings and related national intelligence information sharing functions that support ongoing fusion center activities. IIR will also assist with coordination and facilitation of the 2009 National Fusion Center Conference to improve the sharing of information related to terrorism on a nationwide basis.
With a current offering of 12 different types of training and technical assistance service deliveries, this program targets: fusion center leadership; analysts; investigators; information technologists; and local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement and homeland security officials performing intelligence functions. IIR will continue to provide critical training and technical assistance in the areas of privacy policy development and implementation, execution of the Fusion Center Baseline Capabilities, and establishment of Suspicious Activity Reporting processes.
