Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $397,457)

The state of New York will use grant funds to support programs/activities designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. This project will build and implement a software system that will retain a repository of current and historical offender photographs and display the photographs on the New York State Sex Offender Registry and the New York State Public Registry of Sex Offenders. The state goals are to promote public safety by providing law enforcement and the public with access to various photographs of offenders. NCA/NCF
