Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $400,000)

This award is made under the program entitled "FY 2014 Anti-Human Trafficking Training for Law Enforcement and State Prosecutors". This award is designed to provide national support and improve the capacity of state and local criminal justice systems to increase their capacity to investigate and prosecute the crime of human trafficking. The purpose of this award is to select a provider to deliver nationwide, anti-human trafficking training and technical assistance services to law enforcement agencies as well as state prosecutors who are increasingly seeing human trafficking cases but are unprepared to work with victims and/or prosecute the crime. The Upper Midwest Community Policing Institute will be responsible for: delivering trainings to increase the knowledge of law enforcement and state prosecutors in understanding, investigating, and prosecuting the crime of human trafficking; conducting trainings to increase the knowledge of law enforcement and state prosecutors in understanding the unique needs of human trafficking victims and the need of victim-centered prosecution; and providing technical assistance to human trafficking task forces, law enforcement, and prosecutors.
