TJSI Program Training and Technical Assistance Initiative

The Tribal Justice System Infrastructure Program Training and Technical Assistance (TJSIP TTA) Initiative is designed to assist tribes with the planning and implementation process for renovating and/or expanding correctional facilities, multi-purpose justice centers (including courts, police departments, and/or corrections), alternatives to incarceration facilities, and transitional living facilities. The TJSIP TTA Initiative will assist BJA's tribal grantees under the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS) Purpose Area 4 (Tribal Justice System Infrastructure Program) meet the goals and objectives of their grant funded infrastructure projects. The selected provider will also deliver training and technical assistance in this area that is responsive to the tribal justice field at large.

The Tribal Judicial Institute at the University of North Dakota School of Law, in partnership with the Center for Court Innovation and Peter Krasnow, FAIA, will assist Indian tribes in planning and implementing individually-tailored and culturally-appropriate renovations and/or expansions of correctional facilities, multi-purpose justice centers and alternatives to corrections to enable these tribes to respond to a burgeoning crime problem in their communities. The partners will provide a combination of on-site and remote assistance with the goal of helping each CTAS Purpose Area 4 funded tribe with its facility-related needs and to develop a detailed plan for meeting those needs. The partners will also work with the grantees to determine the status of their renovation/expansion projects and determine the most appropriate course of action and to develop appropriate training modules available on-line to assist other tribes.
