Staying Healthy in the Fray: Family Wellness Guide
The National Policing Institute (the Institute), in partnership with the VALOR Program, created this Family Wellness Guide to serve as an additional resource in the Institute’s Staying Healthy in the Fray compendium. Released in September 2022, the Family Wellness Guide was developed to emphasize the priority that family wellness must receive in the overall ethos and culture of law enforcement agencies and provide guidance and resources to agencies, officers, and family members. The guide specifically addresses family wellness issues that may arise related to law enforcement response to protests and civil unrest as well as other difficult assignments, such as working extended shiftwork and overtime. COVID-19 Vaccine Toolkit for the Law Enforcement Community
Released in October 2021 and developed as part of the VALOR Officer Safety and Wellness Initiative, the COVID-19 Vaccine Toolkit for the Law Enforcement Community includes resources and strategies that law enforcement agencies can use internally and when communicating to the public about the importance of vaccinations. This toolkit is designed for use among law enforcement leaders and consists of customizable materials to promote confidence in COVID-19 vaccines.

Staying Healthy in the Fray: The Impact of Crowd Management on Officers in the Context of Civil Unrest
The National Police Foundation (NPF), in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), released Staying Healthy in the Fray: The Impact of Crowd Management on Officers in the Context of Civil Unrest. This guidebook will serve as a safety and wellness resource to frontline officers, supervisors, and law enforcement executives when in the midst of policing mass demonstrations. The guidebook offers steps which can be taken on an individual and organizational level to aid officers in preparing for and protecting colleagues and themselves during, and recovering from, moments of civil unrest. The goal of the guidebook is to provide a holistic sense of support for officers’ physical and mental health, both while at work and at home. Also see the resource flyer and interactive website.
National Survey on Officer Safety Training
On August 13, 2020, the National Police Foundation (NPF), in partnership with BJA through the VALOR Initiative, released the National Survey on Officer Safety Training: Findings and Implications, along with an accompanying Executive Brief, and interactive website. The report presents the results of a national survey developed and administered by NPF to examine the officer safety and wellness training and resource needs of law enforcement officers and executives.
