Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $333,000)

This project aims to develop a comprehensive, electronically accessible training platform for use by the Department of Corrections and affiliated agencies. The platform will offer a suite of timed, self-paced, instructor-led courses encompassing life skills, job skills, entrepreneurship, domestic violence awareness, healthy relationships, and personal finance. These interactive online courses are designed to equip incarcerated individuals, as well as those transitioning from incarceration, recovery, or domestic violence situations, with essential foundational tools to prevent recidivism. By providing these resources, the program seeks to better prepare participants for real-world challenges upon their release from incarceration, work camps, work release programs, or juvenile facilities. Ultimately, the project endeavors to empower these individuals to lead healthy, fulfilling lives and reintegrate as productive members of society.

The ultimate goal is to build the interactive platform, beta test this in 2-3 of the short term WV Department of Corrections facilities that may include the Regional Jails, Work Camps and Juvenile Facilities. After completion, testing, adjustments to meet the needs of the WV Division of Corrections.
