Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $1,250,000)
The Virginia Sheriffs' Association is implementing the Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) project - also known as a Statewide Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) project. Through the VINE project, Virginia's victims of crimes, and others, will be provided with information on their offender's custody status twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The VINE system will connect all of the various participating agencies, allowing for exchange of vital information to ensure victims are informed of their offender's status.
SAVIN programs benefit the public by providing victims of crime with accurate and timely information about the status of their offender and court events related to their case. In this way, victims are able to fully participate in the judicial process, make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization, and make sure their rights are being upheld. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.
Virginia's VINE system will be available at the state, regional, and local level. VINE will use the Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) and associated implementation guidelines.
