This section contains releases of the Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) available for download and use in the field. While this initiative is still supported, adoption of the broader successor to the GJXDM, the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), is highly encouraged.
Current Global Justice XML Data Model Release
The U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP), together with the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global), officially released the Global Justice Extensible Markup Language (XML) Data Model (Global JXDM) version 3.0.3 to the justice community.
This latest release of the Version 3.0 Global JXDM series is enhanced to increase the ability of justice and public safety communities to share justice information at all levels-laying the foundation for local, state, and national justice interoperability.
An important feature of the Global JXDM, Version 3.0.3, is that 3.0.3 is forward compatible with all XML instances written for Global JXDM, Version 3.0. Global JXDM, Version 3.0, instances validate with all 3.0.3 schemas and schema subsets. Global JXDM, Version 3.0, will remain available indefinitely. The 3.0.3 release is available here https://bja.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh186/files/media/document/gjxdm-3.0.3.zip.
Global JXDM Patch-1
To answer concerns that the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) code schema is incorrectly documented, the Global XML Structure Task Force (GXSTF) has published Patch-1 applicable to all operational versions of the Global JXDM (3.0.0, 3.0.2, 3.0.3). This corrects the UCR documentation elements for the UCR codes that are incorrectly labeled. Patch-1 does not, however, disturb type or element definitions. The README.txt file contained within the following download explains how to patch each release without having to move to a newer version. http://www.it.ojp.gov/jxdm/gjxdm-patch1.zip
Only Global JXDM, Version 3.0.3, will be patched in the Schema Subset Generation Tool (SSGT). Want lists that were previously generated by SSGT from the non-patched 3.0.3 release will be regenerated with the updated (patched) UCR schema.
Patch-1 will be added to the archive file for each release (jxdm-*.zip). However, the user must apply Patch-1 to the archive, if desired. The change logs for the current and previous releases will not be updated.
The UCR schema errors are semantic in nature, and they are contained in xsd:documentation elements only (within ucr.xsd). They do not impact XML validation. Therefore, as long as the documentation within the UCR code schema is not being used as an authoritative guide to the semantics of the UCR codes, schemas, instances, and applications should be unaffected, regardless of whether Patch-1 is applied or not.
