With this solicitation, BJA seeks to fund improvements to forensic science and medical examiner/coroner services, including services provided by forensic science laboratories operated by states and units of local government. This solicitation is only for state administering agencies applying for formula funds.

The goal of this opportunity is to assist eligible states and units of local government with existing crime laboratories that conduct DNA analysis to process, and/or to increase the capacity to process, more DNA samples for entry into the Combined DNA Index System by publicly funded forensic DNA and DNA database laboratories.

Funding under this program is to increase the capacity of publicly funded forensic DNA laboratories to conduct analysis of crime scene samples for entry into CODIS.

This program assists in defraying the costs associated with postconviction case review, evidence location, and DNA testing in violent felony cases (as defined by state law) where the results of such testing might show actual innocence.

This program provides funding to state, local, and tribal law enforcement and prosecution agencies to support activities and expenses associated with the investigation and prosecution of cold case murders involving civil rights violations.
