Offenders with intellectual or developmental disabilities
This program will award one cooperative agreement to fund an organization to administer a competitive microgrant program and provide training and technical assistance to agencies working to protect vulnerable people in prisons, jails, and other confinement settings, and to reduce reliance on restrictive or punitive approaches.
This program supports law enforcement, correctional officers, probation and parole, and sheriff’s departments in effectively partnering with mental health, substance use, community service professionals and agencies to promote public safety and make sure that appropriate responses are provided to individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries.
This program seeks applications for grant funds from state, local, and tribal law enforcement and correctional entities to develop and implement law enforcement or corrections crisis response training programs.
Supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Law Enforcement-Mental Health Collaboration Support Center offers free training, resources, and support to communities wanting to improve their law enforcement and community responses to people with behavioral health conditions or intellectual and developmental disabilities who encounter law enforcement.
This webinar, from the Serving Safely Webinar Series, provides 10 practical tips law enforcement officers can use to effectively serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
