Dr. Michael White from Arizona State University and BJA’s Body-Worn Camera Training and Technical Assistance Program interviews professor Laurie Robinson of the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University about her perspectives regarding body-worn camera. Dr. White was part of the BJA Expert Panel on Body Worn Cameras that helped form the BJA National Body-Worn Camera Toolkit and the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing’s final report helped create the BJA National Body-Worn Camera Toolkit.

Todd Maxwell from BJA’s Body-Worn Camera Team interviews LAPD’s CIO Maggie Goodrich and Sgt. Dan Gomez along with Dr. Craig Uchida from Justice and Security Strategies to discuss the study being conducted at LAPD with JSS and UCLA. They will give an overview of the project along with discussing what they hope to learn and how they plan to use the information learned from the study to improve police work around BWCs. He will give an overview of the project along with discussing what they hope to learn and how they plan to use the information learned from the study to improve police accountability and community relations. Oakland PD was part of the BJA Expert Panel on Body Worn Cameras that helped form the BJA National Body-Worn Camera Toolkit. 

Todd Maxwell from BJA’s Body-Worn Camera Team interviews Dr. Melinda Schlager from the Caruth Police Institute along with Deputy Chief Andy Acord and Deputy Chief Paul Stokes of the Dallas Police Department to discuss their on-going BWC study. The group gives an overview of the study and examines the reasoning behind the study along with looking forward to potential outcomes and strategies from the lessons learned.

The discussion explores the challenges around funding to the multi-level jurisdiction/responsibilities of tribal officers.

Lauren Gonzalez from BJA’s Body-Worn Camera Team interviews Nicholas Mitchell, the Independent Monitor of the Denver Police and Sheriff’s Departments, to discuss the Denver Police Departments BWC Pilot Program. The discussion explores civilian oversight of policy and training around bwcs specifically during a pilot project along with lessons learned that can be used in large agency bwc implementations.

Zehnder from Las Vegas Metro PD and Dr. Chip Coldren from CNA to discuss the ongoing research of the BWC pilot program with UNLV that was funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The study is a multi-year study that examines the implementation and impact of BWCs on a large police agency. Lt. Zehnder contributed to the BJA Expert Panel on Body Worn Cameras that helped form the BJA National Body-Worn Camera Toolkit and Dr. Coldren leads BJA’s BWC Training and Technical Assistance Program.

Alameda County Public Defender’s Office discusses policy considerations from the perspectives of defense attorneys and their clients. The discussion focuses on Oakland because of the PD’s early adoption of BWCs. Seth Morris was part of the BJA Expert Panel on Body Worn Cameras that helped form the BJA National Body-Worn Camera Toolkit.

Miami Beach Police Department Deputy Chief Lauretta Hill discusses their departments implementation processes, perspectives and challenges. This podcast discusses the diverse population of Miami Beach and the collaboration that occurred with state’s attorney’s office and their research partner. The deputy chief discusses best practices and lessons learned from the perspective of a medium sized agency. Deputy Chief Hill was part of the BJA Expert Panel on Body Worn Cameras that helped form the BJA National Body-Worn Camera Toolkit.
