Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative
This initiative provides funding and technical assistance to rural law enforcement agencies seeking to reduce violent crime and address problems associated with violent crime.
Second Chance Act Programs
BJA’s suite of Second Chance Act programs support state, local, and tribal governments and nonprofit organizations in their work to reduce recidivism and improve outcomes for people returning from incarceration.
Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence – Inventory, Tracking, and Reporting (SAFE-ITR) Program
This program provides funding for agencies to gain insight into the scope of unanalyzed sexual assault kits (SAKs) and for managing the status of the workflow of the SAKs.
Sixth Amendment Training and Technical Assistance Initiative
This initiative helps to ensure that states and local government are provided with the capacity and tools necessary to meet the obligations established by the Sixth Amendment.
Smart Policing Initiative (SPI)
This initiative seeks to enable police agencies to effectively use evidence-based practices, data, and technology.
Smart Prosecution: Innovative Prosecution Solutions Program
This program provides state, local, and tribal prosecutors with direct funding and training and technical assistance to develop effective strategies and programs to address and prosecute individuals who commit violent crime.
Smart Reentry: Housing Demonstration
This program is designed to help jurisdictions assess their reentry housing systems, identify strengths and gaps, and build capacity for improving housing options for adults released from prison or jail.
Smart Supervision Program
This program provides community supervision agencies with funding, technical assistance, and new tools to improve supervision outcomes.
State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP)
SCAAP provides federal payments to states and localities that incurred correctional officer salary costs for incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens with at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law, and incarcerated for at least 4 consecutive days during the reporting period.
Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN)
This program was created to assist states in building, implementing, and improving victim notification capacity.
Strengthening the Medical Examiner-Coroner System Program
This program helps address the extreme shortage of board-certified forensic pathologists in the United States and provides medical examiner and coroner offices with the resources to become accredited and maintain that accreditation.
Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Program
This program seeks to improve school security by providing students and teachers with the tools and training they need to recognize, respond quickly to, and prevent acts of violence.
Tribal Civil and Criminal Legal Assistance (TCCLA) Program
This program's goals are to build and enhance capacity and improve delivery of civil and criminal legal services to individuals and tribes, as well as develop policies that improve access to tribal justice systems, and provide training and technical assistance for development and enhancement of tribal justice systems.
Tribal Justice Systems Infrastructure Program (TJSIP)
This program provides federally recognized tribes and tribal consortia with funding to strengthen tribal justice system capacity by addressing physical infrastructure needs.
Tribal Justice Systems Program (CTAS Purpose Area 3)
This program provides federally recognized tribes and tribal consortia with funding to help them address critical public safety challenges their tribal justice systems face.
Upholding the Rule of Law: Wrongful Conviction Review Program
This program supports wrongful conviction review entities providing high-quality and efficient post-conviction representation for defendants in post-conviction claims of innocence.
VALOR Officer Safety and Wellness Initiative
The VALOR Initiative is an effort to improve the immediate and long-term safety, wellness, and resilience of our nation’s law enforcement officers.
Veterans Treatment Court Program
This program supports state, local, and tribal efforts to plan and implement or enhance the operations of veterans treatment courts.
Violent Offender Incarceration and Truth-in-Sentencing Incentive Formula Grant Program
VOI/TIS grant funds allowed states to build or expand correctional facilities to increase the bed capacity for the confinement of persons convicted of Part 1 violent crimes or adjudicated delinquents for an act that, if committed by an adult, would be a Part 1 violent crime.
Visiting Fellows Program
Through this program, BJA invests in leaders in the field to advance priority national policy issues and offer cross-developmental opportunities for Department of Justice staff and criminal justice practitioners and researchers.
