DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid)

The goal of this opportunity is to assist eligible states and units of local government with existing crime laboratories that conduct DNA analysis to process, and/or to increase the capacity to process, more DNA samples for entry into the Combined DNA Index System by publicly funded forensic DNA and DNA database laboratories.

Funding under this program is to increase the capacity of publicly funded forensic DNA laboratories to conduct analysis of crime scene samples for entry into CODIS.

This program assists in defraying the costs associated with postconviction case review, evidence location, and DNA testing in violent felony cases (as defined by state law) where the results of such testing might show actual innocence.

This program provides funding to support the prosecution of violent cold case crimes where a suspect (known or unknown) has been identified through DNA evidence.
