This program provides funding to state, local, and tribal law enforcement and prosecution agencies to support activities and expenses associated with the investigation and prosecution of cold case murders involving civil rights violations, as authorized by the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Reauthorization Act of 2016.

Justice Department Boosts Efforts to Solve American Indian and Alaska Native Missing Person and Unidentified Remains Cases

As announced in a November 23, 2021, press release, the Department of Justice is committing $800,000 to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) specifically to increase the program’s capacity to provide outreach, investigative support, and forensic services to cases involving American Indians and Alaska Natives.
